American kids are nowhere near the level of performance of the kids from Asian countries.

it is actually this i am trying to understand. because, yes, by 10 I could read at the 12th grade level. I was taught that and granted I had help and I ain't stupid. but still. And I was on the level in math, which is not my forte.

so what has happened? what? I really do not think we need some big changes but why not go back to the 60's and teach children. apparently they knew how to do it then. I was brighter but not unusual. I knew no one who could not read in the 6th grade or do basic math. it was taught to us. and our parents expected us to learn it and did their part. you did not get to school not knowing your alphabet and your #'s. period.

the problem is not finding all new ways to teach. just my opinion.

I was taught history starting in 4th grade. it got deeper and deeper each year. I surely knew all countries by 7th grade.

wft they teaching now? go back. sometimes going back is good. and parents should be reading to their childs and teaching them numbers from the start.
