I think the initial gut level reaction of the country was correct...let them fail. Except for that big down day in the stock market, that might have been the outcome. Save the system but not the individual companies...isn't that the entire point of the free market? Gamble big, lose, go out of business...thud.

Honestly, what the heck were these people doing and saying when Paulson came up with the 3 page proposal to give himself $750 billion with no strings attached because the entire global economy was going to be nuked tomorrow? The fear in the country was huge because those who should know were apparently frightened out of their minds.

What is the solution? Does anyone know even at this late date?
