The Airbus 380 is so large it not only requires new ground equipment, but wider runway spacing and longer times to allow for dissapation of the wake vortex.

This is not a good time ask airports to spend millions of dollars on new equipment.

Payoff for the Airbus 380 will take a long time.

There are also some who consider the Airbus 380 too large for the present state of engineering knowledge. The Boeing 747 was just under the limit, the Lockheed C-5 was over the limit, and had extensive problems for many years.

With the small number of A 380 built, it will take a long time to gain the experience needed to find the new problems.
