Ted, the very short answer to your lengthy post In other words, you didn't bother to read it. My length of my post was necessitated by the length of yours that preceded it which I did read. We as Americans will have to do some soul-searching if we're ever going to emerge from this mess. The alternative is to spend like madmen trying to prop up the domestic house of cards, i.e. what SilentZ advocates in the name of Keynes. Look......I have no problem with frugality. I have never understood these people who over extend themselves financially. However, let's not go overboard or make unrealistic goals for ourselves. I think the family you identified is extreme.....they've committed their lives to total frugality. I think we can be frugal without going to that extreme.
