It's too damn bad we didn't have a real "Outlaw Journalist" like Hunter Thompson on or near Wall Street during the build up to this economic mess.. Maybe we did but the writing fell on deaf ears of the BS prone, straight-laced press.. I am reading a biography of HST now.. He had a few writing gigs from the National Observer(published by Dow Jones) when he ended up in San Francisco in 63-64.. He sensed the coming cultural revolution and tried to interest the NO but to no avail.. Finally ended up doing some pieces for The Nation which really launched his career.. Maybe Rolling Stone is the closest thing to REAL journalism now.. A writer, or person in that fact, has to "sense" what is going on and not just rely on pure analytical numbers and letters( words) which can be massaged into pure BS pablum..
