The 'strong approve/disapprove' numbers is what Rassmussen generally headlines, while most of the other polls usually headline the 'total approve/disapprove' numbers --- which include all the 'strong' respondents along with the 'leaners'.

You need to make sure that you are not getting confused about 'apples and oranges'.

1) ALL the polls report 'strong approve/disapprove' numbers.

2) ALSO ALL the polls report the 'total approve/disapprove' numbers (which fold in the weaker categories of support of disapproval).

But --- what category they prefer to lead out with VARIES with the polling organization's preferences, Peter.

When you look at all the reported numbers, (from all the big polls), you don't see all that much difference... (aside from the utterly OBVIOUS: Rassmussen's numbers tend to lean a little toward the Republicans, CBS's numbers tend to lean a little toward the Democrats, etc.)

That is why I believe the MOST VALIDITY is found in the rolling AVERAGE of ALL THE BIG POLLS:
