Sorry, but I have to defend teachers here. Until we do something about the disciplinary problems in our schools we can't blame teachers for failure to educate our children.

Recently in the Baltimore Area, a teacher was beat up by a student. This is not unusual but what was unusual is that it was caught on video and got to U-tube. From there it was the subject of several stories on the National news shows.

In Maryland, of course, the matter was covered in several in depth articles in the local news papers. While not news to me,many were suprised that assaults on teachers and students per annum where in the thousands. The school system instead of supporting the teacher accused her of provoking the fight because when the student threatened the teacher, the teacher indicated that she would defend herself if attacked. Other statistics that came to light were that on any given day 20% of the students did not attend class and overall there was a high percentage of students who missed school regularly.

How can you blame a teacher for failing to teach kids who don't come to school, and when they do they disrupt the class room or beat up the teacher. The problem corrupt and inept bureaucracies which have beome welfare programs for those with doctorates in education.

No amount of money thrown at the problem will solve the problem until these problems are solved and no one seems to want to address them.
