Drug stocks retreat while Allergan soars on speculation

BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- Drug stocks retreated a bit in early trading Tuesday, the day after the broader market staged an almost 500-point rally on hopes that a new government program will help rid the financial system of credit-crippling assets.

Shares of the Botox-maker shot up over 10% to $47.70 in early trading amid rumors the company might soon be a takeover target for a major pharmaceutical company, possibly GlaxoSmithKline PLC, according to analysts.
Glaxo shares were off almost 1% at $29.57.
