"Most Afghanis do not want Taliban rule and never have."

Not even vaguely true.

It IS true, and not vaguely.

While the general attitude toward Taliban is up and down, in general the Afghan population does NOT want Taliban rule.

Afghan public attitudes are generally negative toward Taliban although more supportive in the Pashtun south.

To be clear, however, they don't want their country to be the battleground, either. Nobody would. But they've seen life with and without Taliban rule and when given an opportunity they choose freedom like everyone else.

It is very difficult to collect reliable statistics in the region due to the fear under which these people live. But it is clear that they would not choose to live under Taliban rule. I'm not sure where you go the idea this was not correct.
