"The market" are not in control of health care. Having employers, with their myriad of different interests, in the middle of the payment system is more dysfunctional from a free market perspective than having the government running the payment system.

What makes you think employers are in the middle of the payment system?

And yes I've said here many times that single payer is the only viable solution. If we could actually get to a free market from here then that would be great. But we can't. And we have to lower costs. No choice at all.

While it may be true that a single government payer will "reduce" costs, when you cut costs on the backs of health care providers you do not do yourself any favors. It merely kills the quality of health care.
