It's a false choice the GOP likes to present to the public. The reality is that there's plenty of money in being green. Green products help us conserve so not as much energy is used. That right there is one of the biggest benefits that provide a clear return on investment. Then many of the key green tech is rapidly getting to grid-parity. When that happens, it starts to be a massive wealth generator for this country, because the inputs (solar and wind and wave power) are free and the maintenance is cheaper than for coal or nuclear power.

So the real choice is do we want to kill two birds with one stone by investing in renewable energy that will bring wealth to this country and lower our energy cost structure over the long haul, while simultaneously lowering our carbon footprint? Or do we want to continue with oil and coal and all the heavy burdens of foreign policy and high economic cost structure that comes with it, and is likely to get worse as oil prices move back up permanently and maintenance costs continue to skyrocket since all the old coal and oil equipment is just a pile of rust right now?

The GOP wants to live in the past. The Dems want to move forward. That's the real choice. Now if we can just harness the good (renewable energy, education, science) from the Dems, while minimizing the bad they bring (out of control budgets, liberal social agenda, protectionist tendencies).
