Good Quantum news this week. Lets not forget one positive that Quantum mentioned in the conference call. That they will be announcing this week the next generation Bigfoot which is already qualified at one OEM. Someone already posted an article about the drive but it didn't look like a Quantum press release. Details were three low cost desktop model of 4, 8 and 12 GB! Also the increase in spin rates to 4,000 RPM combined with dramatially higher data densities means an aweful lot of data moving under the heads and a lot of data accessable before track swithes necessary. Given that the old Bigfoots were surprisingly good performers, it seems that this should close the performance gap with 3 1/2" drives. Little wonder business applications are now being targeted. Any comments on this from the technical experts?
