Something that had slipped my mind, until I considered that even long term capital gains on gold stocks would be at least 15%:

This massive inflation that the U. S. government is undertaking will not only reduce the value of outstanding debt, it will also raise taxes through what amounts to a capital levy on all appreciated assets.

I think dividend-paying stocks geared to inflation, such as Canadian Oil Sands Trust, are better than gold.

Another footnote: I was very interested in IMPUY because it pays out all profits when platinum prices are high. But I notice my broker skimming off a 5% fee on dividends from ADRs. I never saw that before. Is it common?
