Yes back then all was well as black folks were 3/5th human.
Let's remember that it was the model of American liberalism, slaveowner Jefferson who slapped that provision in there.
What you are describing is changes in facts on the ground that create new choices between parties in each generation.
Some are and others aren't.
To suggest, as you are, that liberalism is part of "progress", is just an example of drinking the "progressive" koolaid.
As pointed out in the original post, even the mild conservatives, which I am, have moved far to the left over the years. But this is a result of liberalism being persistent while conservatism is sporadic.
When liberalism seizes control of an aspect of the law -- for example, Social Security or Medicare or unions -- they never give that ground back. Conservatives, when in power, do not act to undo the policy that liberals established because it is politically impossible to do so.
It makes sense. Liberals give people shit. They give them jobs with the government, food stamps, extra unemployment money, free health care, old age benefits, you-name-it. Hell, people though Obama was going to pay their mortgages and buy them gasoline. Last week I heard an audio clip of a woman yelling at a bill collector that Obama was going to pay her bill for her! So who of these people are ever going to vote against a liberal?
Conservatives have an uphill battle because conservatives don't give away government assets quite so readily. That is, after all, why more people are moving to liberalism. It isn't because of ideology. It is because the liberals pay better.
Of course we [conservatives] are losing ground. We always will -- you have a president who is bankrupting the company in order to pay people to keep him in power. And it will work if he can keep paying them. Guaranteed.
It insures America will eventually go broke. But he sucked you in and more than half the people on this thread. |
