I think its likely that in the very long run electronic health records will save money overall.

Its just that the benefits will require more time and initial investment than many people seem to think, and also the benefits will likely be smaller than many people think. This isn't something that's going to be a huge difference maker in a few years or save a ton of money over the next decade or anything like that. Many current patients and doctors will never see any savings from it.
