It's all politics. Until the majority of Americans favor marijuana legalization, the pols will generally support prohibition. He can't waste political capital on marijuana legalization. The time is not right. He probably feels differently than he stated publicly today, but why create a new controversy? I do sense that the marijuana issue is thawing slowly. Almost everyone I know used it at one time or another and go on with life now just fine. But there's still a large percentage of the population that thinks marijuana is dangerous, and are totally misinformed. Alcohol is by far much more dangerous and anti-social than marijuana. You can't die from a marijuana overdose and it does not encourage agressive behavior like alcohol does, such as fighting. All things being equal, if a Martian landed on earth and had to decide which should be banned due to ill effects and dangerousness, alcohol would be the one to go. Too bad we aren't so intelligent. Marijuana time will come. Remember when having a black President was unthinkable?
