The "gotta get there" syndrome has caused many an accident. I remember when I was learning to fly, the instructor harped about cross country VFR flights. You get to the destination then the weather turns bad and you can't get back, but the fool hardy try anyway. Many times they end up a statistic. Same rule applies for travel by car. Better to arrive a day late, but alive.
