My father wanted to learn to fly when he moved a computer business in the 1960's because the local infrastructure was insufficient.

My father was convinced that learning to fly then was not a good idea. He often mentioned the concern he would lose his concentration like we all do when driving. That may not be a problem for a person who grew up flying. For a late learner, it can be deadly.

OTOH I would never hesitate to fly with my BIL. He is a by the book pilot. He also maintains his instrument only rating.
