Hell, the entire bush presidency went down the tubes when he messed this up and then katrina.

Katrina? Give me a break. Katrina was just a case of piling on. The Bush administration executed with reasonable efficiency given the scope of Katrina.

The failures with Katrina were at the state and local level. You cannot expect the federal government to solve problems that are a direct result of serial failures at the local and then the state level. Had either Nagin or Blanco done their jobs, the federal response would have been at worst adequate.

We forget the thousands of people who were rescued from the tops of their houses by the federal government over a period of four days. We forget that the local government had no facility that even THEY believed was adequate for housing refugees for more than eight hours. We forget that all major highways into the city were blocked.

And we forget that Katrina was a hurricane yet the disaster was the flood -- a totally different kind of problem and one the state and local officials were totally unprepared for. The flood came Monday night and federal disaster relief was flowing in on Wednesday -- in spite of every major highway being blocked.

So don't start with the Katrina bullshit. Bush's performance during Katrina was just fine.

As to the Iraq War, it will be a couple of decades before we know how it turns out. I can tell you that the situation there is reasonably good at this point.

It is still possible for Obama to blow it, and his change away from a war footing is a great way to start doing just that.
