3/27/09 update Although they lost steam by Friday, the Bulls still had a pretty good week. At Friday's close, the Nasdaq Composite Index was down -1.68% CYTD, or "Contest Year To Date," (vs. down -7.27% CYTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Biotech Index and the Contest median gained a bit less ground. At Friday's close, the NBI was down -3.38% CYTD (vs. down -7.85% CYTD a week ago) and the Contest median was down -8.06% CYTD (vs. down -13.02% CYTD a week ago). PRAVN & GENE, jumped into the Contest's No. 1 & No. 2 positions, with last week's leader, RKRW, falling back to third place. The CYTD percentages were: PRAVN up 22.06%, GENE up 19.72% and RKRW up 17.26%. At Friday's close, 12 of the 32 Contest portfolios were in the black and 14 of the 32 were beating the NBI. The Roche buyout of Genentech for $95 a share closed and I reallocated the proceeds using the 3/27 closing prices. Let's hope some of those Roche multi-billions is reinvested back into biotech stocks. Have a wonderful weekend folks! Below is the Top Ten list on 3/27/09:
