but the point is, each individual provider can't POSSIBLY exert the leverage the ENTIRE Medicare system could on the Pharma corps.

I'm sorry, but I do not believe you have the intellect to understand why it is totally infeasible to give Medicare the power to negotiate directly with the drug companies. However, here is a link that will attempt to explain it to you:

Part D, much maligned as it is, is one government program that is working correctly. The 10-year projected cost of Part D is 37% lower than the original 2003 projections, and some 18% lower than the 2007 projection.

At a cost of $40B/year, it is chickenfeed compared with some of Obama's insane spending.

According to AARP 80% of those using Part D are pleased with the plan, which is pretty good from a relatively diverse group of Medicare beneficiaries.
