I don't know that answer to your questions, but maybe you can help me out? I've never shorted a stock before, I've always preferred to buy puts, but with AOL the premiums are so high that I think I might do better with a short--and AMZN isn't optionable, so I don't have any choice here. I trade with Lombard, and they require 50% of the purchase price initially and then 35% to maintain, but what does that mean? When I short, don't I get all the money?--does that mean I need to keep 35% of the value of my short in cash? About 80% of my portfolio is in options, so none of that is marginable. . . Anyway, planned on calling Lombard tomorrow, but maybe you could save me the embarassment of asking a log of dumb questions. Thanks.
