.............some major new regulation of the financial services markets is required.

Should be coming soon I suppose, either by way of new regulations or temporary nationalization of some banks like BAC, C, etc.

And then there is the issue of offshoring while deriving benefits at the expense of the American taxpayer. That, I presume is also being addressed, now that there are some Under Secys in the Treasury deptt.
