someone there would have to want to find the right wines badly enough to spend time out here finding sources since a lot of the wines I deal with have limited volume going through any kind of distribution.

That's exactly what Chambers Street does, and does very well - though they are much more Europe focused than California (in case you hadn't figured that out already). I'm sure the relative paucity of California wines has a lot more to do with their taste preferences than their willingness to beat the bushes for good wine.

My biggest problem with the Quivara was the alcohol, so based on the description I found in Swan's newsletter I'm not sure the Cuvee Joanie would work for me. Not that it matters, since others who are much more deserving already have all there is of it. The Peterson sounds like one I could like (the 13.8% alcohol level is mildly encouraging) but it's doubtful I'll ever get a chance to sample a bottle without taking a long plane ride. If I ever do get a chance to try it, I suspect I'll wonder if it would have been even better without the 4 weeks of new oak.
