Ted,
I respect someone who thinks for himself although I have yet to meet a winger who does. However, its one thing to think for yourself and its quite another to behave as if you know everything that needs to be known on a subject even when its clear you don't. And you double that transgression by speaking with great authority..almost demanding what should be done. What makes you think anyone will listen?
I have yet to hear a reasoned argument as to why a labor costs of ~$70 per hour are not the #1 reason of GM and Chrystler being bankrupt. Do you know why that is? It is because even the Dems know deep down that this is the case, that the UAW is an outrage.
You can see it even in he best talking heads on the news channels. They know they are wrong. Their heart is not in it. They still go throught the motions of flailing their hands, denying what the true UAW labor cost are, arguing the definition of $70, changing subject to management. These talking heads go through the motions because Dem emloyers are far too indebted to the unions. Dems owe just about all the power they have to the unions, unions like UAW. And just like a drug addict, it is hard to kick the habit, come clean.
What will Obama do? My prediction is the equivalent of giving bonuses to AIG people who got AIG into the mess. Translation, he will reward the union generously, people who got us into this, naturally with taxpayer money. Fate of GM? Never mind that side issue...
What is your prediction?
Funny....the way you see unions I see corporate CEO types. I don't think you can trust them any farther than you can throw them. And the recent behavior of many CEOs has confirmed this observation of mine.
If you think that I am going to defend the management, you are wrong. They have destroyed billions of shareholder equity. They let the UAW rob the shareholders blind. While they were supposedly working for the shareholders. They appointed their cronies on the boards to rubber stamp their inflated salaries, and worst of all, their golden parachutes.
