That would be 'rationing care' and smack of socialism (and also lawsuits).

I wasn't suggesting denying treatment, only having an intelligent discussion with the patient about his options. "You can take twenty different pills and/or have twenty treatments if you want, but doing so will make you as sick as some of the ailments for which you take the pills, so let's talk about what your priorities are and what is doable and what will serve you best." That's not rationing. It's being honest and common sensible while caring for patients. If the person still still wants to take the twenty pills and/or have all those treatments, fine, but he should understand the risks and rewards.
