Good idea BS, but slightly bung: <Considering the often superior results of Asians in math and engineering disciplines.. given the chance.. I guess they may soon develop a superior culture >

It's not "often" it is a permanent state of affairs, with North East Asians having the highest visual/spatial intelligence of everyone other than Ashkenazis. So we should expect [given a chance] superior performance in maths and engineering and it happens as you observed.

You can read about it here:
lagriffedulion.f2s.com

Given the numbers [1.3 billion Chinese plus a bunch of Koreans, Japanese, Mongolians], North East Asians have got a high proportion of the world's maths and engineering brainpower potential. They should be able to come up with an Electro [TM] system easily and sell it around the world to the Neanderthals.

The problem is the Chairman Maos and Kim Jung Ils of the world. The community needs the higher verbal intelligence to turn the talent loose. With Mao in a mausoleum, maybe they'll be released to get on with it one of these days. Jiang Zemin was an engineer, so that's a good start as there's little cultural bias against the idea of technological progress, unlike in some countries. Imagine building the Three Gorges Dam in Canada or USA. It would never get past environmental objections about the endangered left-footed mud crab which lives only in the locale.

China has the maths and engineering brains to lead the world in the CDMA/OFDM mobile cybersphere but the lack of verbal intelligence let them down by authoritarian blunderers forcing them onto TD-SCDMA with huge delays. Totalitarian bossiness is more important to them than progress [they are even trying to tell NZ to not let Mr Dalai Lama visit]. They could lead the world with the Electro [TM] too, but they'll blunder it and somewhere else will invent and produce it. Heck, maybe ElM's Latinos in Brazil will do it - giggle....

Mqurice

PS John Key [Prime Minster] has ignored them and he will meet the Dalai Lama as a significant international figure. John Key is doing a good job. Phew - got rid of Helen Clark and Labour just in time [hopefully]
