. . . Are we beginning to find our footing? . . .

The past few rallies have been broadening out much better. Buying the gloom is usually paying off with an immediate bounce. Been bouncing with the banks. Some preferred issues have been smoking as share price rises sharply, PLUS dividend payouts are still in the 20% annual range. Hard to miss with that sort of double whammy. I have probably made more trades in the past two weeks than I have in the past half dozen years.

Even GM bounced pretty good there for while (and a bit today as well), until I saw all that volume come in on Friday and had to bail completely. . . just ahead of implosion, too. President Obama and the gang asking CEO to step down was an amazing event. They apparently want to allow GM to fail, so they can step in (legally) and reorganize into a few lighter companies. Prophetic that the GM headquaters has the separate towers. I think further assistance will be made available with the contingency of proof of progress toward truly alternative vehicles. The days of massive gas hogs could finally be behind us.

That said, I am very much liking what I am seeing in Washington these days. . . especially with the efforts toward regulating banks. . .or at least the credit default swaps / derivatives back room craps game where $30 trillion is gambled among leading banks. . . as reported by DTCC (Depository Trust and Clearing Casino).

Politically, I am even in agreement with efforts to increase resources and box in the remote mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan. . . I believe the 360 degree squeeze can work. . . if Pakistan will allow it. Gee, I guess we all need to have a few more kids, so the next generation doesn't have to work as hard to pay these trillion$ back.

SIDEBAR: We were all astounded when the Bush administration began talking about hundreds of billions of dollars. But the Obama administration is talking tens of trillions of dollars. And that is mind blowing. Trying to imagine a million of anything is hard enough. But a trillion is a million millions. . . and that is an obscene number of anything. One would think that it would be difficult, if not impossible to spend a trillion dollars. . . but somehow Washington sees it as ordinary. Then. . . when you consider the amount of money it would take to feed starving Americans for the rest of their lives AND provide them with basic health care. . . the amount is but a fraction of a trillion dollars. . . which begs the question, what are we really trying to accomplish in America?

America started out by doing good. . . but quickly figured out it could do very well instead. . . (to borrow a phrase from my brother). Now we only drive in the fast lane. . . and never look back. So how does a presidential administration begin to change the core values of a country so run amok with greed?

I'm all ears. (uh, figuratively speaking)
