In war I'd extend it beyond any lie to directly avoid heinous intent. The whole war consists of two parties engaging in horribly violent actions against each other. Any lie that will hamper the actions of the enemy would probably be acceptable, with some exceptions (for example a lie pointing the enemy at innocent civilians which gets those people harmed or killed)
