First lets talk about what would need to change with such an amendment beyond separation of political entanglement.

The DOJ is a prosecutorial force and as the highest identifiable model in the country, so it should be the cleanest and able to handle the highest level of official crime. First and foremost the perception must be one of impartiality. Selection can’t be by political appointment if this is to be accomplished. Under the current system political appointment has proved the perception of impartiality to be impossible.

The roll and function of the DOJ should be expanded to include and focus on prosecuting the violations of persons elected to office especially federal office. This is almost a complete reversal since now the DOJ is obligated to elected officials. The perception of the relationship is one of corruption or at least favoritism. Oaths of office should bind office holders in a way that a breach of oath becomes cause for criminal charge and if the charge has merit, immediate suspension from office duties. Elected officials sometimes behave as if they have diplomatic immunity. Political corruption should be among their highest priorities.

Accountability: There already exists some checks and balances. They are not supposed to create law or interpret law. Case adjudication is the natural path to accountability. We could add a clause that would be cause for removal or impeachment.
