OT: Saw Springsteen with E-Street last night. 2nd stop on the tour. Sounded great, pretty good crowd. Set list included Badlands, Outlaw Pete, My Lucky Day, Promised Land, Seeds, Johnny 99, Ghost of Tom Joad, Born to Run, Working on the Highway, Out in the Streets, The Rising, Lonesome Day, Waiting on a Sunny Day, Radio Nowhere, Downbound Train, Because the Night. Encores were Hard Times (Come Again No More), Rosarita, 10th Avenue FreezeOut, and a song from the folk tour who's name I didn't catch. Probably missing a couple in there. A little short of 3 hours, the band sounded great (they used a violinist who added a lot). Bruce made a couple comments about the economy and how it's hit Phoenix, also added it "was the worst economy he's seen in his lifetime". Nils Lofgren was great, he lives in Scottsdale so it was a homecoming show for him. I impressed the kid next to me (who's seen the Boss live 20 times) by telling him I'd only seen him 4 times, but the first time was in May, 1976 during the Born to Run tour.....<G> Highly recommended, though I'm not particularly crazy about the new album.
BTW, tickets for that show were about 6.50, compared to 110 for last night, about a 16 fold increase in 33 years, or 9% compounded annually. And Bruce really doesn't gouge compared to many artists.....Must be that "strong dollar policy" that every Treasury secretary's been pimping for the last 35 years, eh?

A set list from the '76 show...I see 3 songs that were in both shows (10th Ave, Born to Run, Rosalita):
13/05/76 - MUNICIPAL AUDITORIUM, NEW ORLEANS, LA
NIGHT (2.55)/ 10TH AVENUE FREEZE OUT (4.15)/ SPIRIT IN THE NIGHT (6.35)/ ITS MY LIFE (10.46)/ THUNDER ROAD (5.41)/ SHES THE ONE (8.48)/ BORN TO RUN (cut in middle)(3.41)/ PRETTY FLAMINGO (16.11)/ GROWING UP (4.18)/ SAINT IN THE CITY (6.43)/ BACKSTREETS (7.33)/ JUNGLELAND (cuts and edits at end)(8.28)/ ROSALITA (13.06)/ RAISE YOUR HAND (3.27)/ 4TH JULY ASBURY PARK (SANDY) (6.44)/ NEW ORLEANS (3.06)/ DETROIT MEDLEY (10.43)
Audience tape of the complete 17-song set. Show includes an interesting arrangement of “Saint In The City” and a very rare performance of the Gary US Bonds early 60’s classic “New Orleans” (incorrectly listed as “Mississippi Queen” by many sources). Released on the CDR ‘Mississippi Boss’, a title referencing that mistaken song title, not the location of gig. The audio tape was recorded from the seat shown in the ticket image (below) and at one point Springsteen jumps off the stage right in front of the taper. |
