Or it could have ended Thursday, courtesy of Hong Kong. Read this week's Barron's interview with John Makin. We in the US have an economy in the seventh year of expansion -- and no inflation as we import deflation from SE Asian economies. But if we import any more deflation, we may see severe actual corporate earnings declines (as opposed just to declines in inflated earnings expectations). Do you really think that liquidity and demographics will continue to drive stock prices up next year if earnings fall short next year? Or perhaps you believe that Intel's stock price, now down 22% from its peak, is still in an uptrend? Or do you really think that currently tumbling PC prices are good for Intel (or Dell, or Compaq, or even DEC)?
