Which number was your anecdotal survey?

Articles exist daily on various pro gun sites with links to actual documented reports of defensive uses. The reports of defensive use are largely under reported as no one is going to call police to claim they used a gun to deter a crime - for several possible reasons including not having a license to carry one.

I do agree the number 2.5 million such incidents a year is probably a huge exaggeration - but even a fraction of that is a very large number compared to small number of home invasion of criminal usages on normal folks. Remember the deaths from all firearms in the USA is about 30,000 with 50% being suicide - don't count in my book. Of the remaining 15,000 over half are drug related so we have about 7,500 possible cases that are in the area we can do something about - remember that number includes accidents etc. I believe that number pales in comparison to defensive uses in a year.

Got to go watch a movie with the girls - talk later after I go dig up some better numbers for you from CDC and others.
