So if we have 250 million firearms in the US and they are rarely used for self-defense compared to crimes and accidents, somehow increasing that to 300 million or 350 million will change the trend? Why, except as a matter of your deduction?

A statistical analysis of 300 million people using 250 million things yields a representative sample well over a thousand times larger than needed to prove a valid conclusion. The guns are out there in huge numbers, and they get used to kill relatives more than criminals.

If you can prove otherwise with real numbers, be my guest.
