"Bush kissed and held hands with the king of Saudi Arabia. I wasn't outraged.......

Anyone educated enough to understand the cultural differences should have been proud of Bush for his demonstration of cultural sensitivity.

In Saudi Arabia men are able to spend time with each other, tell a friend you love him, walk together holding hands, kiss on the cheek as a greeting etc without the weird stigma of having sexual orientation questioned. We have that weirdness because of all our internal conflicts with the sexual liberation movement. The cost to us has been the loss of a concept of brotherly love expressed in comfortable non-sexual ways.

Bowing may be simply seen as a courtesy afforded by title. It is a gesture of respect at the least and a display of submission at the most. Saudis don't bow to others and don't respect others who bow to them. It was a mistake that wont be overlooked.
