BC, I definitely don't agree with the complete surveillance implied by that Salon article.

However, I also don't agree with you that he's "gutting the Constitution" dwarfs even Bush.

Yet.

For one thing, I've believed that all those things mentioned in that Salon article are *already being done* either by corporations (to profile your behavior and sell information about you) and I assume the eff bee eye grabs 100% of the e-mails sent today.

This privacy business is truly serious, I think. Yes, we'd catch a few crooks by doing so. But at what cost??

I get a letter or notification on average once every three months about a security breach. I'm sure that means that an actual breach is occurring every 3 weeks.

Two weeks ago, it was a credit card. Last week it was a stolen parking computer that my SSN was on... not sure WHY??? Frickin' idiots. Anyway, ALL profiles will be stolen and used by nefarious entities. And I assure you, the gov't will be even WORSE at safeguarding everything.

And... there are lots more issues with the Constitution to worry about. The most heinous in my view of the Bush years was the treasonous outing of Valerie Plame. Some day a million people might wake up dead because her operation, 10? 20? years in the making, was compromised.

Anyway, time will tell. I don't mind those who opposed anything and everything Democrat for all time voicing these concerns over and over. The two parties are part of the same corporation, after all.

And I believe we are at a juncture where things can still get much, much worse. Worse than 99% of Americans believe possible. Maybe 99.44%.
