Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. Climbs in Pre-Market on Q4 Earnings

4/8/2009 8:19:37 AM(RTTNews) Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. (BBBY) is rising in pre-market trading on Wednesday as the company announced better-than-expected earnings for the fourth quarter.

At approximately 8:20 AM ET, the stock is trading at $28.90, up from Monday’s close of $25.51. With the climb, the stock is poised to reach its highest levels since early October.

The firm posted fourth quarter profit of $141.4 million or $0.55 per share, compared to $172.9 million or $0.66 per share in the same quarter a year ago.

On average, 18 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to report earnings of $0.44 per share. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Net sales for the fourth quarter were $1.923 billion, down 0.5 percent from $1.933 billion last year. Comparable store sales in the fourth quarter of 2008 decreased approximately 4.3 percent.

A Thomson Reuter survey of 15 Wall Street analysts forecasted revenues at $1.92 billion.
