It would seem that the account the stock was borrowed from would be paid a div since they own the stock.

It would seem that the ultimate purchaser of the short sale needs to be payed the div since they own the stock.

One div comes from the stock company. I would guess it gets credited to the original owner of the stock (through the borrowing broker?). Where does the other div come from?

Wouldn't we expect whoever is supposed to come up with the 'extra' div to cover just before it goes ex div?

Similarly, who gets the voting rights and proxy?
