Drift River, Chevron shutdown could lose state millions

The Department of Environmental Conservation said Cook Inlet Pipeline Company, which owns the terminal, has engineers looking at possibly moving the facility to another location.

"They understand the vulnerabilities," DEC Commissioner Larry Hartig said. "Even when you are 22 miles away from the volcano it's an extraordinary event to see those lahars coming down and the ash coming from that mountain. So I'm not surprised they are looking at alternatives."
