When thinking of historical reasons for it being a part of the bible and religious texts in general - it was the fact that marriage was created to produce children to grow the society, army etc. It has little or no meaning in todays societies yet the legacy of the early "laws" exist. It's nothing more than a short historical synopsis not a statement regarding my beliefs.
