Thomas, if we accept the fact that telcos are in a rush (pressure from cable) to implement adsl, we have to accept the fact that CAP will win the 1st round and therefore the RFP that's out there today.

CAP is more mature, it is cheaper to implement in terms of cost and real estate. CAP in it's current state consumes about 4 watts of power. On the other hand Overture4 consumes 12 watts of power. Even with Copper Gold DMT will consume 4-5 watts which is still higher than today's CAP power consumption.

Summary:

* time to market is important
* product cost is important
* real estate is important
* power consumption is important

When DMT companies can come up with products ready to meet the above, they will have their chance. But from what's going on right now, early deployment is definitely CAP. No telco is going to wait around for products that are in the drawing boards.

None of us are going to complain much when we get 1.5Mbps instead of 28.8Kbps.

What concerns me now is the fact that by the time DMT is truely competitive, many more players with much more muscle will be in the market with their version of ADSL and the playing field will be a lot more competitive than it is today.
