Mark,

I'd like to add a #4 to your list. What is going to compell people to continue to upgrade systems as fast as Intel can crank out faster CPU's ? I think we are at a point where if you're out for your 1st computer you'll buy the fastest CPU you can afford. However, if you already have a pentium, why should you lust after a pentium-pro ? the speed increase just isn't worth the trouble for the vast majority of people who already have a system that works for them. I'm starting to see this trend in software, I sent back my Quicken "upgrade" since it really didn't have any new features I just had to have and the multimedia CD-ROM had only generic advice/video clips. Not worth $50. In a similar vein, I'm perfectly happy with my 486DX-100 for my needs and don't see a compelling reason to spend money for capabilities I don't need. Intel's installed base is it's worst enemy right now.

Regards, Maurice
