The problem is that people just can't decide for themselves. They have to listen to a guy like Simon before deciding whether a singer is good or not.

And I'm not talking about those who clearly suck like William Hung. I'm talking about those who actually sing well but then get unfairly roasted by Simon. I'm also talking about those who are good but not exceptional, yet get vaulted into fame because Simon said so.

This is exactly what the music industry has come down to. Recording execs have to tell us who is worth listening to.
