Same here, the death throes of our 300 year history of independence didn't flash in front of my eyes, the way it seems to have for so many. I think we're a bit stronger and more secure in knowing who we are and what we stand for than that.
When I am at dinner parties at which thanks is given before a meal, I bow my head out of regard to my hosts and for their traditions. It's not a betrayal of my personal beliefs, I am not saying their beliefs are superior, or that I am subservient to them, and I bet O.'s message was no more than that. What the actual protocol is seems irrelevant to me, even if he got his countries confused. Obama was working hard to demonstrate respect, something that too many countries and leaders have felt a lack of from the US. If he screwed up, it at least was on the side of the angels, imo.
I saw a funny suggestion that there should be a secret handshake for all World Leaders, used only between them when they visit each other, so no one has to worry about doing something incorrectly, and in fact, no one would KNOW if they did it incorrectly because it's SECRET. They could change it periodically to confuse people who think they're catching on.
Of course, the world order conspiracy believers would think it was a symbol of a Global takeover by Soros. |
