Ted, from the article:

> "I'm really apprehensive about going out in the evening," Hamilton says. "We've turned into an American city."

This is why I don't listen to Canadians when they try and tell Americans how great their country is. They've got a superiority complex that interferes with any real solutions they could be implementing.

You are upset about that comment only because you see the US through rose tinted glasses. When you talk about skiiing in the Alps.......every time you bring it up.......you end up negating what are potential positives to Europe. There is this constant comparing to the US and where the US comes up short you find a way to turn it around. The truth is Canadian cities are far more liveable than American cities. Seattle, Portland, Madison and MPLS are as close as you can get in the US to a Canadian city. Last fall, when I heard what was happening in Vancouver, I was very surprised. Its not the city I have visited numerous times.......and it does sound more like an American city.

The truth is the US is not perfect and there are things we can learn from other nations......one of which is making our cities more liveable and desirable.

They are also well behind in dealing with problems related to immigration, but don't expect Canadians or the mainstream media to admit that.

What country isn't behind in dealing with their immigration issues? The dominant society in a country is not motivated nor does not feel the need to help those who are in the minority. Its a common attitude throughout the world including here in the US.
