If you look at the statistics, hard gay prejudice is dying out. Heck, at my school today we are in the middle of a "Day of Silence" and over 300 kids signed up to support gay and lesbian youth who have been the victims of violence. Young people are getting much more tolerant and I've never seen any statistics showing otherwise- which doesn't mean there aren't still young people who hate gays, but they are a dwindling minority.

There are no statistics that support your idea that this is not age related. It most certainly is. Statistically it is related to age, religion, race and political affiliation (with republicans having a much more negative view of gays than democrats).

Civil unions would be fine if that's what everyone got. The important thing is that whatever the state has on offer everyone gets the same thing.
