Berkowitz has had a pretty good record as a value investor over time. I spoke with him years ago while he was still with Lehman, after an article featuring him in OID. That's when I first learned about LUK. He is a big holder of LUK and a follower of Cumming and Steinberg. Recently he has taken interests in the same holdings they are involved in. Since they are historically buyers of distressed assets which they turn around and sell- with a great deal of past success- at this point he may also be looking to do the same thing with assets that they are not involved in. He doesn't have a track record of success in doing this.
