2 articles on DVD in the French daily Le Monde:

First one entitled "What DVD will change"

Second one "A new Christmas gift in the US"

I translated the parts that might be of interest to you- Here it is:

DVD players are now available in France with very few titles available.
This lack of titles slows the sales of players, in another hand
the producers are not very keen in puting out new titles since
the sales have nor picked up yet.

The second article is more informative. Here is the main info in it:

In the US there will be 400 titles by the end of the year.
Warner, Sony and Universal took a clear lead compared to Fox or
Paramount.
Disney, who represents 35% of direct sales announced (a while ago) that
they will produce DVD.
Warner sold already 500 thousand DVD, with 180 titles that will be on
the market by the end of December, they will produce 10 films monthly
and come out with VHS and DVD versions cimultaneously for their new films.
Disney has announced 8 films to come out on Dec. 2nd including 2 new ones: George for the Jungle and SCREAM. (I hope my translation is OK)

Joel Binder from Alta Vista Entertainement says:
"Today we just produce the film, we have not done any market research and have no clue of the customers just want enhcnaced quality or more content (that DVD can provide)"

No cartoons planned yet by Disney which could be a bounty!

Universal have produced 50 titles so far (or will have by Christmas)
Columbia 30 titles
Sony is also entering the fray
Playboy Entertainment has joined in.

The key question that remain is how the American public will react. In fact, Christmas will be a very interesting test of the acceptance by
the public of DVD in the US.

My own comment ( if there is acceptance in the US, Europe will immediately follow suit).

That's it for what I found of interest.
