That's what the West Germans have done on the East.
And before the 40 years division, they have been one German country for a lot longer than Italy.

Maybe South Italy is indeed too close to Africa to be like the rest of the country?

Checking old history and artifacts down there, sometimes one gets the impression that they were for centuries - and long before Garibaldi - closer to Africa (Carthago) and Greece than to the North of the same peninsula.

Or do some great ideas come to your mind with regard to South Italy?

To me it seems obvious, that they need and even so deserve a treatment different from the North.
