Obama didn't prostrate himself before the King of Saudi Arabia. Nor anyone else either. It seems the rabid Republican right is going off the deep end over the most trivial things. Have you checked his fingernail cutting style yet? Could be not quite to your liking.

Bowing is generally just considered a mark of respect. Kneeling or crawling in approach on one's belly would be a different matter.

In Japan, there's lots of bowing. Same around the world.

A bit of a bow beats haughty arrogance any day.

As keeper of the sacred mosques, big rock and stuff in Mecca etc, the Saudi King probably rates a bit of a bow. It's not much different from shaking hands. In Japan they bow instead of shaking hands. Depth of bow is calibrated but precision isn't expected of foreigners. Assuming Obama wasn't just checking his shoelaces, or ducking pre-emptively in case a shoe came flying, it was a minor gesture of no great import.

But what do you think about Michelle's hairstyle? We should discuss such important issues. History hinges on it.
